Abstract:
The current hinged knee has several shortcomings e.g. loosening and a very short lifespan, 10 years or less are no exception. After the failure of the prosthesis, in most cases, the surgeon’s only solution is arthrodesis. Aim of this study is to find the mechanisms that have a negative impact on this prosthesis and to design a new transplant with better mechanical properties, keeping or ameliorating the freedom of movement for the patient but most important, giving it a longer lifespan.
Keywords:
Total knee arthroplasty, TKA, constrained knee, hinged knee, biomaterials, chronic knee instability, bone cancer.
