Background
The bachelor after bachelor programme 'Nursing in Intensive Care and Emergency Care' is situated within the structure of the R.D. of January 18, 1994, containing the list of specific professional titles and competences for practitioners of nursing, whereby the professional title regarding particular specialization in intensive care and emergency care is defined.
Â
In order to stimulate the quality of this programme in Flanders, an educational profile has been formulated, in cooperation with the work field and various university colleges. The Artesis University College of Antwerp took part in this development and engages to convey the formulated competences to the candidate students in intensive and emergency care nursing.
Â
The programme is part of the whole of courses organized by the departments of health care of the Karel de Grote and the Artesis University College. The programme is subordinate to the regulations of Artesis and its department of Health Care.
Â
The goal is to offer a specialized programme in intensive care and emergency care in order to promote the inflow of specialized nurses within the respective wards. After succeeding, the student receives a bachelor's degree in intensive care and emergency care nursing, with which he can apply for the professional title (R.D. April 19, 2007).
Â
Target group
The programme aims primarily at the bachelor in nursing, who wishes to obtain the specific professional title. Students can subscribe to the programme full-time, immediately after the general bachelor in nursing education, or as a working student, for which various combinations of part-time studying / working are possible.
Â
Study programme
The programme contains a total of 60 ECTS, which can be followed in a full-time (1 year) or part-time (2 year) course. Individual courses or attending single classes are possible too, but have to be formally requested by letter at the head of department. All classes are organized between 8h00 and 18h00 and are usually grouped in one week per month; exceptions are communicated to the students well in advance. The programme is eligible for receiving paid educational leave.
Â
