Our mission
The Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp aims to educate enthusiastic and talented people to become creative, professional musicians and performing artists with great autonomy and personality, able to slot into the contemporary socio-cultural and artistic frame of reference. The Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp offers opportunities for extensive artistic cross-pollination, as courses in the three performing arts, as well as teacher training, are all grouped on the International Arts Campus deSingel. The partnership with deSingel ensures a unique exchange of talent, art and knowledge that supports and fosters a strong international profile. Creativity and artistry can only exist where there is room for communication, research and awareness.
The dance student is exposed to traditional dance styles but also encouraged to follow his or her own creative and artistic path. The training pays attention to both the performing and the creative aspects and offers opportunity for individual exploration of movement. The dancers develop a strong personality with a sense of artistry, a broad cultural and theoretical background, and professional expertise, linked to current developments.
The drama student trains himself – by developing voice and language, body and movement – in the communicative power in all its aspects (Acting, Author/Performer, Art of Speech). Intensive performance practice, together with a balanced academic and theoretical education, form the student to be a performing artist.
The student of music focuses on ensemble in all its aspects, on artistic research and on collaboration with diverse artistic trainings and professional organisations both at home and abroad. In this way, the young musician gets acquainted with diverse/different artistic styles, genres and disciplines and is given room, a.o. to gain experience in the field of both historical and contemporary performance practice.
The student of teacher of music, drama or dance tests his professional skills against teaching and didactical insights and gains more in-depth knowledge in his/her way of reasoning and acting, so that his/her educational skills are permanently developed. The future teacher of music, drama or dance educates him-/herself to become an inspired tutor/mentor with artistic sensitivity, with a broad cultural and theoretical background en with professional knowledge, attuned to the artistic world of education at home and abroad.
