De afstudeerrichting Mode bekijkt mode als een vorm van expressie van de emoties van onze tijd, als een relatie tussen kledij, het lichaam en de maatschappij, als een artistieke en creatieve onderneming.
Tijdens de bachelor en master opleiding wordt vooral een innovatieve en een conceptgerichte aanpak gestimuleerd.
Je wordt aangemoedigd te improviseren met nieuwe vormen, originele bewerkingen van materialen, en alternatieve creatieve en praktische processen te exploreren.
Van nature heb je als modeontwerper een grenzeloze interesse in het nieuwe en het onbekende. We leiden ontwerpers op die hun creativiteit combineren met een virtuositeit in verschillende disciplines, met excellente professionele vaardigheden.
Door de vele projecten en internationale samenwerkingsverbanden, staan onze studenten bekend voor hun individuele en vaak karakteristieke creaties in de modewereld.

Fashion Design at the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts is undoubtedly one of the world leading programs.
It was Mary Prijot who established courses in fashion illustration in 1963. By the time the Royal Academy will celebrate its 350th anniversary, our prestigious Fashion Program will turn 50.
The alchemy became apparent in the early eighties with the Antwerp Six. Six –or better seven- fellow graduates were presenting their collections in London.

 

The names of Van Beirendonck, Demeulemeester, Van Saene, Bikkenbergs, Van Noten, Yee and Margiela were too exotic for the British Fashion Press, hence the radically different styles of these young designers were promoted under the banner The Antwerp Six. 
The programs emphasis on the development of an artistic fingerpint is highlighted during the annual fashion show. Currently Walter Van Beirendonck is Head of the Fashion Program. The Course co-ordinator is Nellie Nooren.
The 140+ students work in the heart of the fashion district. The Fashion ‘Academy’ shares a beautifully renovated building in the Nationale Straat with the Fashion Museum (MoMu), Flanders Fashion Institute and two stores.

 

Through the years dozens of graduates earned international renown; Véronique Branquinho, Stéphan Schneider, Bernard Wilhelm, Angelo Figus, to name but a few.
