Cost of living
In general it is estimated that a single student needs about 450 Euro as a monthly budget (excluding travel costs and clothing). Hot student meals offered by the student restaurant cost around 5 Euro, while cold snacks are available from 1.5 Euro onwards.
Accommodation in Antwerp is moderately priced. The average price of a single room is 200- 250 Euro/month, not including the use of electric current, gas and/or water, which can amount to some 20/40 Euro per month. In many cases a deposit of 1 month (sometimes 2 or 3 months) has to be paid in advance to the landlord.
Accommodation
The Artesis Hogeschool Antwerpen does not operate its own student housing. However, there are a great number of student rooms for rent in Antwerp, and at present supply is slightly higher than demand, so finding somewhere to live should not pose too many problems.
As a rule, student rooms are let for a period of one or half academic year (i.e. 5 months or 10 to 12 months), and have to be paid for by the month. A deposit of 1 month will be required. All rooms are furnished with standard furniture, kitchen and bathroom facilities are usually shared.
International students are advised to arrive a few days before the start of the academic year, to allow for some room-hunting. They can contact the International Office if they need assistance. To start, we book temporary accommodation for your first nights after your arrival and our students are willing to assist you. Also, we try to accommodate incoming students as much as possible in the rooms of our outgoing students. This ensures the best integration possible…
Next to our assistance, SOVOHA (Sociale Voorzieningen van de Hogeschool Antwerpen), the Institute’s social service has access to KOTWEB, the accommodation database of the Antwerp University. The database gives a full overview of the student rooms in Antwerp but you need a password and log in to enter!
Information about KOTWEB can be obtained at the International Office.
